The half marathon pace chart shows the pace per mile and per kilometre you need to finish a half marathon in a chosen time. Enter a finish time to get the pace, or enter a pace to find the finish time. The chart lists finish times from 1:00:00 to 3:30:00, and each row also gives your elapsed time at 5K, 10K, 15K and 10 miles. Every number assumes even pace, with each mile or kilometre taking the same time. The tool is free and runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded or stored on a server. Use it to plan a race, set a pacing target for training, or see what a pace means over the full 21.0975 km (13.1 mile) distance.

How to use the Half Marathon Pace Chart

  1. Above the chart, choose Pace for a goal time if you know the finish time you want, or Finish time for a pace if you know the pace you can hold.
  2. Type your finish time (for example, 2:00:00) or your pace into the box.
  3. Read the answer. It shows the pace per mile and per km for your input.
  4. Look at the chart. The closest row to your answer is highlighted, so you can see the nearby finish times and paces.
  5. Check the 5K, 10K, 15K and 10 mile split times in the same row to plan where you want to be at each point.
  6. Use the miles / km switch to choose whether the pace you type, and the big answer, are per mile or per km. The chart always shows both, and the tool remembers your choice in this browser.

The two modes answer opposite questions. Pace for a goal time suits race planning, when you have a finish time in mind. Finish time for a pace suits a training check, when you already know the pace you can hold and want to see the finish time it gives.

The highlighted row is the nearest listed row, not a rounded version of your answer, so read the exact pace in the answer box. Copy link keeps your settings in the page address, so a shared link opens with the same result.

What pace is a 2 hour half marathon?

A 2 hour half marathon works out to 9:09 per mile or 5:41 per km. Pace is the total time divided by the distance. Two hours is 120 minutes, and a half marathon is 13.11 miles, so 120 ÷ 13.11 gives 9.15 minutes per mile, which is 9 minutes 9 seconds.

The same sum works in kilometres. The race is 21.0975 km, so 120 ÷ 21.0975 gives about 5.69 minutes per km, or 5:41.

How far is a half marathon?

A half marathon is 21.0975 km, which is 13.1 miles. The chart uses this exact distance for every pace and split, so the per-mile and per-km figures in each row describe the same race. Because the distance does not change, a faster finish time always gives a lower pace number.

What is a good half marathon time?

A good half marathon time is one that matches your training, your experience and your goal for the day. There is no single standard that applies to everyone. A first-time runner who finishes steadily and enjoys the race has had a good result, just as an experienced runner chasing a personal best has.

The chart gives you reference points. A 1:30:00 finish needs 6:52 per mile (4:16 per km). A 2:00:00 finish needs 9:09 per mile (5:41 per km). A 2:30:00 finish needs 11:27 per mile (7:07 per km). Pick a time that is a realistic step up from your recent runs, not the fastest row on the chart.

How do I read a half marathon pace chart?

Each row is a finish time, and each row gives the pace that matches it. The pace columns show how many minutes and seconds each mile or kilometre takes. The split columns show the elapsed time at 5K, 10K, 15K and 10 miles.

These numbers assume even pace. Every mile or kilometre takes the same time, from start to finish. If you run the first half faster and then slow down, your splits will not match the table, so use the split times as targets to check against during the race.

The rows are spaced in fixed steps, so your exact target may fall between two rows. The closest row is highlighted to show you the nearest match. The answer box above the chart gives the exact pace for the time you typed.

Why does the chart show both miles and kilometres?

The table always lists pace per mile and pace per km, so you can read whichever unit your watch uses. The miles / km switch only changes which unit the pace you type and the big answer use. Your choice is remembered in this browser, and the table itself stays the same.

Can I print it?

Yes. The Print chart button prints only the chart, so you do not get the rest of the page. This is useful if you want a copy to carry on a run or to stick on a training wall.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a pace per mile to a pace per km?

Divide the pace per mile by 1.609, because one mile is 1.609 km. For example, 9:09 per mile becomes about 5:41 per km. The answer box shows both units for you.

Does the chart include walking breaks?

No. The times are based on even pace, so every mile or km takes the same time. If you plan to walk through water stations or take walk breaks, add that time to your finish target.

What if my goal time is not in the chart?

Enter your exact time in the tool. The answer box shows the exact pace, and the closest chart row is highlighted. Use that row as a guide for the split times.

Does the tool store the times I enter?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser, and nothing you type is uploaded or stored on a server. Your settings are kept in the page address, so only the link you choose to share carries them.

Is there a sign-up or a cost?

No. The tool is free, and you do not need an account to use it.

Does the chart work on my phone?

Yes. The page works on phones. Tables scroll sideways inside their box on small screens, so you can see the split columns.

Does changing miles to km change the finish times?

No. The finish time stays the same. The switch only decides whether a pace you type and the main answer are per mile or per km; the chart always lists both.
